Suspend-IT Sam reviews the Hoist-A-Cart Gen 2 Jeep Top and Door removal and storage system
Suspend-IT Sam and his neighbor Wes were given a shiny new Hoist-A-Cart Gen 2. It was the first nice day of spring so they decided to unbox it, and try it out on a Jeep JL wrangler unlimited Sahara. This Jeep top removal tool worked really well and even rolled on uneven surfaces, and didn't go careening down the hill because we could easily put the brakes on.

Nice plan but its to complicated and takes to long to setup. Other versions are simpler and less equipment is needed. also the expense is Less. It was a nice video

Why would they design a pulley where you have to remove the wheels/spring clips to screw it down? When I see simple, stupid decisions like this, it steers me away to a different product, say one with 1/2" more flange to screw the pulley down so you dont have to remove the pulley wheels. It really makes you wonder where else they skipped spending the extra 10 minutes to design something correctly.

That's a nice product, but man, that's a whole lot of work just to get the top off. I use the Roll N Jack and it's much easier, plus I don't have to lower it to the ground and I just park the Jeep right under it.

Video does not follow manual received with the Hoist-A-Top for 4 door JK. In the manual I can see the offset of 1/2 inch between the holding points. There is no word in the video about the offset. In the manual you ask to measure 32 inches on the roof. Despite the fact the drawing in manual shows that the roof is 32 inches (which is not) there is no explanation from which side (rear ort front of the Jeep) to measure the 32 inches. I am lost.

All these over price hoist systems are not only overpriced but way more complicated than it has to be. I bought an $85 2,500lbs wench from Harbor Freight, a 2x12 board at 8ft long, drilled some holes for the wrench and nut/bolted the wench to the 2x12 and then tossed it all above my ceiling joists and nailed the 2x12 above the joists once I got it where I needed it. I lowered the hook with the wireless remote it came with, and got a 100ft nylon rope for the straps. Since I have a Gladiator I went under the front of the hard top with one rope and then another separate rope inside the back window and through the front of the hard top and tied figure-8 knots on both sides of each of the two ropes once I got the size I needed and then cut the excess off. And that was it. I have a powered hoist that lifts my 85lbs top off that HAS a weight maximum of 2,500lbs and everything is bolted and nailed down. Took me all of 30 minutes to slap together and I guarantee you it’s stronger than this $450 rig in the video and it costs no more than $100 all together.

I did the same exact thing with a 880lb Champion hoist. Still cost significantly less than this option, and far less complicated (just like you stated). I cut a grommet into the ceiling, and installed the unit in the attic above the joists. It gives an extra foot of clearance, and completely hides the hoist motor. I also used sling load straps to connect to the clevis hook.

Really impressed - that is an elegant solution, especially if you don't like to leave your top suspended above your jeep when parked in the garage. Out of curiosity, is it ok to leave the top in that seated vertical configuration for extended periods of time? Like for many months? Or will it stress and potentially warp/crack it?

As a woman, I was nervous about putting this together and using it myself and I have to say, I appreciated the detail in both the assembly of the gen 2 hoist a cart and this one! I love it. I’m very happy with the purchase and can remove the top alone and replace it alone.
